Michael Calas is a leading Los Angeles based professional photographer, specializing in portraits. He was born in Habana, Cuba and raised throughout the Caribbean and in Miami Beach. Some of his first memories are of being in front of the camera for his father who was also a professional photographer.
Michael graduated with a BA degree in fashion design and photography and started his career shooting for numerous catalogues, throughout the US. He has also worked as a professional make-up artist with some of the top names in the beauty industry such as Chanel, Shiseido, Este Lauder, Orlane Paris and Lancome. In Chicago, he worked as a fashion stylist for various top photographer’s and commercial production companies. These experiences helped him hone his photographic skills and in turn, give his clients an added advantage when shooting with him.
Michael's photos are innovative, fresh, yet classic. His fine art background gives him a keen eye when creating a captivating image, through his usage of lighting, framing and by capturing the true essence of his subjects.
He is currently working on an tattoo photo project and a pictorial report of New Orleans “Walking by, Two Years Later”.
